A message from Glenn Crytzer:
I'm excited to announce the kickstarter project for the first full length album from my new band, the Savoy Seven. We are working on a studio album of all original swing music called “Uptown Jump” that I’m composing and arranging in the styles of the 1930s and 1940s.
While other great bands have tried to update swing music with modern technology, to fuse it with other styles, or to recreate older music, this project is about creating a record that lets the personalities and creativity of some of the world's best jazz musicians come out through a filter of the swing era – with the result being an album that sounds like a brand NEW band from 75 years ago.
What's the record going to be like?
It has always been my goal for the music my bands make to sound like it came from the swing era. Since all the bands at that time had their own repertoire and signature original tunes, it follows that we should do the same!
This record is going to have 18 tunes – influenced by musicians and composers like Fats Waller, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington, Jimmie Rushing, Charlie Christian, and more!
Who's on this record:
Mike Davis – trumpet
Evan Arntzen – clarinet and tenor saxophone
Dan Levinson – soprano, alto, and tenor saxophones
Dalton Ridenhour – piano
Andrew Hall – bass
Kevin Dorn – drums
Glenn Crytzer – guitar
