Cog is a free open source audio player for Mac OS X. It supports many different formats. Quite popular among Swing DJs in combination with iTunes. iTunes as pre-listening player, and Cog as main player via external USB soundcard.
djay is an affordable DJ system using the iTunes library. djay is available for Mac, iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. djay for iPad was selected in many countries as the “iPad App of the Year”.
Exaile is a free open source python-based audio player available on Windows and Linux. The latest release candidate includes plugins that support pre-listening, advanced tag-based music categorization, and a manual BPM counter.
foobar2000 is an advanced freeware audio player for the Windows platform. Some of the basic features include full unicode support, ReplayGain support and native support for several popular audio formats. Other features: easily customizable user interface layout and advanced tagging capabilities.
iTunes There’s is probably no one out there who doesn’t know Apple’s media player, available for free for Mac and Windows. If there would be a pre-listening option, no other software would be necessary. However, many DJ software use the iTunes library.
JRiver Media Center is very popular among Swing DJs on Windows systems. It’s for managing and playing almost all formats of audio, video, and images. Media Center can also record television and manage documents, and it is fully configurable. Free trial version available.
MediaMonkey Another popular software among Windows users. MediaMonkey is a media organizer and manager for small to large libraries, with many different features. Free version available.
MegaSeg is a DJ and radio software for Mac and iTunes. It comes in two editions: MegaSeg PRO is more for Pro DJs, VJs, radios and businesses. MegaSeg DJ focuses on mobile and club DJs and covers many core features of the Pro edition. Free demo available.
Mixxx Free open source DJ software with iTunes integration, DJ MIDI controller support, BPM detection and sync, supports MP3, M4A/AAC, OGG and FLAC audio. Mixxx is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
PCDJ Red Mobile 2 for Mac or Windows is a DJ software designed for pro DJs and entertainers especially for mobile use. It reads all kind of sound formats including non DRM songs. The software supports iTunes library import. Free Trial available.
