If you like hot jazz music from the 1920s and 1930s then you will like this kickstarter project.
Philadelphia's own Perseverance Jazz Band started the campaign on September 17, 2013, to fund their first full length record “Hard Times Come Again No More.”
The Band's Description on Kickstarter
Dear friends and fans,
This is the very first album from Perseverance Jazz Band (www.perseverancemusic.com) and we're incredibly excited about it! It's going to feature some of our favorite songs, supremely talented musicians and the breathtaking vocals of Cecilia Ferneborg.
It will also include a guest vocal appearance by the inimitable Franny Smith, the long-time Showboat entertainer. The original album art is being designed by the very talented Lital Gold (you can check out her amazing work at www.Litalgold.com), and local legend Eric Carbonara (www.ericcarbonara.org) is engineering and mixing the record.
We can't wait to share it with you!
We packed ten musicians into the beautiful and acoustically-blessed Church of St. Jude and the Nativity to get a high-energy, spontaneous sound.
We've already finished recording (and we're super happy with it!) but before the finished product can be delivered, a number of hurdles remain: Mixing, mastering, licensing, album art, and printing are the big ones. Unfortunately, it's not free to make a quality record.
We are setting our goal at $3,000 to help cover the base costs. If we exceed that goal, we'll use the additional funds to promote our album and print more CD's so we can reach a wider audience. We'd like as many people to hear it as possible!
Thanks!

The only downside: Too high costs ($25 USD!) for shipping outside of the U.S., therefore the band won't get many backers for the higher pledges from there…
However, I'm one of the backers for sure!
Update October 8, 2013: The band created new rewards with updated lower international shipping costs! For instance, you can get the physical CD now for $20 ($15 + $5 shipping).

PJB is a band I work with on swing dance projects, and I can attest to the great energy of their sound and the fact that they’re all great people! Cecilia, the vocalist, has one of my favorite voices that I’ve ever heard. And all the rest of the guys are just good folks–plenty of fun to hang around and have a beer with.
I hope everyone will consider backing this project at least at the digital copy level. This album will definitely be worth it!
Good point about the shipping rate- this is the first time I’ve ever put a Kickstarter together, and I think I got some bad info about shipping costs internationally. Unfortunately, since folks have already been pledging money, Kickstarter won’t let us change anything about the rewards. Sorry about that, overseas fans! We didn’t mean to be unfriendly! Gosh, we didn’t even know you were out there! We’ll be happy to sell you an album with the real shipping cost after they are released.
Thanks for featuring us on your site!
Best,
Jonathan and Perseverance Jazz Band
Jonathan, thank you for your comment (and your message via Kickstarter). I can understand your point.
It’s great to see how the swing dance community is connected world wide and that those projects can be successful with an international support.
You will reach your goal and I’m really looking forward to listening to the album!
PS. I reckon, the real shipping costs will be more likely between $5-10.
