Almost every year, Gordon Webster is releasing a new album.
This time, it's a result of a Kickstarter campaign initiated by Boston Swing Central. Yet again a live album full of great tunes.
I'm a big fan of trumpeter/vocalist Jesse Selengut and our Song of the Week is an original tune written by himself.
Lady Doc
Jesse's distinctive voice renders a special touch to the song.
Jesse Selengut
Well, this guy has its own Wikipedia entry, so here is it:
Jesse Selengut (born September 9, 1968, Dover, New Jersey) is a New York City based trumpeter, composer, and singer.
A noted performer of American Roots music, Selengut helped create “Treasures of the Sea” and “The Cangelosi Cards”. He now sings, composes, & plays trumpet in Tin Pan that includes notables Clifton Hyde (production, guitars, & vocals), Stefan Zeniuk (reeds), and Pete “Baby Hands” Maness (double bass & vocals).
Selengut leads the contemporary jazz group NOIR which performed in the World Harmony tour in Kenya in 2007 to raise money and awareness for the Shangilia Orphanage in Nairobi.
In the free jazz and avant-garde idiom, Jesse Selengut has performed with Dave Douglas, Butch Morris, Kenny Wollesen, Sabir Matteen and Daniel Carter.
Jesse Selengut founded, directed and produced the Williamsburg Jazz Festival from its inception in 2003 to its final year in 2007.
