Some of my friends here in Vienna have put out a excellent podcast – it's only 11 minutes long, but they are a very interesting 11 minutes and it won't take you too long to listen to it. Alexei Korolyov interviews Nathan and Erin, who were here in Vienna teaching last year.
Check it out. It's short, sweet and worth the listen.
Social Dance at the Savoy Ballroom?
In the first episode, Alexei wonders if we were to travel back in time to 1930s or 40s New York, would we be able to social dance at the Savoy Ballroom?
“After all,” Alexei thinks, “the modern form of the Lindy Hop is quite different to how they did it back then.” Since we have learned how to Lindy Hop in classes (and not like Frankie and others at that time did with family members, would what we've learned help or hinder us to social dance at the Savoy?
To try and answer this question, Alexei spoke to IG HOP's Dancers in Residence instructors, Nathan Bugh and Erin Morris, both of them well-versed in lindy hop history – and not averse to time travel.
