Another crazy high energetic Lindy Shock is over and for the third time, I was one of the main DJs.
Man, if you haven't been to this event yet, then you definitely miss out on something.
The quality of the music – live and canned -was again very high and I think, it's still getting better from year to year.
Even as an experienced DJ, I get a lot of inspiration and I always discover many, many songs that I don't know or don't have in my library.
I have featured Artie Shaw a few times before (see #14, #85, #119, and #172) but his music is just too good. So here is another tune and the credits go to Marc D'Olimpio and Janne Börjesson, who both played that tune during Lindy Shock.
Although I have a big Artie Shaw library, I was a little bit shocked, that I couldn't find it there ;).
When The Quail Come Back To San Quentin

Random Factoid I learned that relates to this tune – a “San Quentin Quail” is an underaged girl. San Quentin being a prison in California.
Very interesting, thanks for those informations Rich!
Also… the name “When The Quail Come Back To San Quentin” is a pun on a popular tune – “When the Swallows Come Back to Capistrano” – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/When_the_Swallows_Come_Back_to_Capistrano
In the Mosaic liner notes, I just read the following: “The song came about, Shaw once explained, ‘after a song plugger pleaded with me for months to play a maudlin tune called WHEN THE SWALLOWS COME BACK TO CAPISTRANO. So as a practical joke I told the guy to listen to our broadcast from San Francisco when we would play the tune…I don’t think the guy ever spoke to me again.”
Thank you for those insides, Marc!
